Are Safe Toys on Your 2008 Christmas List?

It's that time of year again when we're starting to think about what we're going to buy our kids for Christmas. But is that toy at the top of their list a safe toy? Will it be recalled or even injure your child?

Are Safe Toys on Your 2008 Christmas List? By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lill_Hawkins]Lill Hawkins Safe toys are at the top of everyone's Christmas list this season. We all remember 2007 when toy recalls seemed to come faster than snowflakes in a blizzard. One manufacturer alone, Mattel, recalled over a million toys because of concerns about lead paint. The scariest part of this for me was that so many of these tainted toys were targeted at toddlers and younger children, who always put things in their mouths. And while we were still trying to protect our kids from lead poisoning, another hazard hit the headlines when consumer advocates blew the whistle about the dangers of phthalates. Used to soften plastic - the main material of most toys - these hormone disrupting chemicals were also found in baby bottles and water bottles and even teethers! So, we've become wiser and more cynical consumers when it comes to our kids. Many of us have turned to toys made in the US rather than the toys that are imported from China. The internet has given us easy access to Germany and other European countries where classic toys are still made with pride and children's safety in mind. The classics are back: blocks, educational toys, wagons and dolls made without plastic materials. They're flying off the shelves of upscale toy retailers and also are at the top of the online sales lists. Gone from our Christmas list are toys with magnets or the latest battery operated cheap plastic gimcrack that will either break, choke or burn our child, or turn out to be tainted with lead. We've all learned from the toy recalls and have found that safe toys are available on the internet. We've also learned that safety is the first concern when it comes to buying toys for our children this Christmas and all year 'round. I don't, but I can certainly steer you in the right direction. But making sure you get the right things for them can be an uphill struggle. I know this, you know this, and even your drunken father, who can't keep his paper hat on straight, knows it too.
